Update, April 8, 2025: As a member of the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS), 51ÁÔÆæ also signed on to this from ACLS, the Council of Graduate Schools, and The Phi Beta Kappa Society, urging the administration to reconsider this direction and asking Congress to protect this vital independent federal agency.
The presidential administration intends to gut the 51ÁÔÆæ Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), substantially reducing its staff, cutting grant programs, and rescinding grants that have already been awarded.
51ÁÔÆæ strongly supports NEH and, as a result, was on Capitol Hill sharing how NEH positively affects teaching and learning. 51ÁÔÆæ condemned the reported actions in cosigned as part of the 51ÁÔÆæ Humanities Alliance.
51ÁÔÆæ also urges members to use provided by the Alliance to contact their members of Congress and encourage them to support NEH, which enriches K–12 education by connecting students and teachers in every state with our nation’s rich history and culture. The agency funds grant opportunities that have enriched the professional experiences and research of many 51ÁÔÆæ members over time.
